The 2008 conference came at a very difficult time,
when the industry was going through a severe
destocking process following the first impact of the
global recession. It was therefore a key moment
for delegates to come together. A strong gathering,
considering the conditions, was able to take the
opportunity of networking and also benefit from a
wide variety of presentations covering many
aspects of the downturn.
We have now seen some supply-side recovery as
inventories are brought into line with new levels of
consumption and as market shares for certain
fibres are adjusted. The 2009 Conference is
therefore ideally timed to determine the real
strength of demand. It also comes at an extremely
important point as regards determining not only
the extent of the recession but also the nature of
the recovery, as regards both its strength and its
timing. The PCI team of consultants, with its
detailed, independent and long-term analysis will
also point to those markets where the recovery is
most likely to emerge first.
A well-structured and extensive 1? day
programme is planned, covering all major fibre
groups and their raw materials, including
polyester, acrylic and nylon fibres together with
important papers on natural fibres and the
economic and trading environments in which the
industry operates. The programme will include
highly respected speakers from the industry with a
full range of papers from the PCI team.
